The short answer
EliteAir Heating & Cooling repairs heating, cooling, heat pump and duct systems in more than a dozen Santa Clara County communities around San Jose. Each visit starts with testing and ends with clear repair or replacement choices.
San Jose sits in the middle of Santa Clara County, and our service routes fan out from there to the cities ringing it: Campbell, Santa Clara, Sunnyvale, Milpitas and Mountain View on the valley floor; Cupertino, Saratoga, Los Gatos and Monte Sereno against the western foothills; Los Altos, Los Altos Hills, Palo Alto and Stanford to the northwest; East Foothills to the east; and Morgan Hill to the south. Loyola and the mountain neighborhoods of Lexington Hills round out the list. Some stops are a short hop, others take us around 14 miles out.
One county, a wide temperature spread
The valley's Mediterranean climate gives everyone dry summers and mild, damp winters, but the details change by location. Morgan Hill and the southern valley run noticeably hotter than Palo Alto or Mountain View near the Bay, so air conditioners in the south and inland areas carry heavier summer loads. Foothill towns such as Saratoga, Los Gatos and Lexington Hills see cooler nights and more heating hours, while homes in Sunnyvale or Milpitas sit somewhere in between.
We factor that in when judging whether a struggling unit is undersized, worn out or simply starved of airflow.
Housing stock we see most
Much of the county was built out in the postwar decades, and those homes often carry original duct runs, older furnaces in hall closets and condensers added years later. Newer construction in places like Cupertino or Mountain View may have variable-speed equipment and smart thermostats that need different diagnostic steps.
- Mid-century ranch homes with attic or crawlspace ducts
- Townhomes with stacked closet furnaces and rooftop or side-yard condensers
- Hillside houses on long, winding duct runs
- Remodeled homes mixing old ducts with new equipment
Appliance rules and incentives
Bay Area Air District rules apply throughout the county. They do not require swapping out working equipment; they matter when a furnace or water heater fails or is replaced. Gas furnaces made from 2029 must meet a zero-NOx standard, steering later replacements toward heat pumps. The 25C federal credit is no longer available for new installs. BayREN and local clean energy providers may have current incentives, which we verify before quoting.
Signs worth a service call
Small changes usually show up before a full breakdown. A Sunnyvale townhome that suddenly takes twice as long to cool, or a Los Gatos furnace that clicks several times before lighting, is telling you something. Catching those early often means a smaller repair and less time without comfort.
- Rooms that drift several degrees away from the thermostat setting
- Rattling, grinding or squealing from the blower or condenser
- Ice on refrigerant lines or water pooling near the indoor unit
- Breakers that trip when the system starts
- Utility bills climbing without a change in how you use the system
What happens when we arrive
The technician confirms the complaint with you, inspects the equipment, checks electrical components, airflow and refrigerant where relevant, and explains the cause. You get written options and decide. Approved work is done the same visit when parts allow.
